A HCPOA gives someone authority to make health care decisions when you can no longer make those decisions yourself. If you have a heart attack or stroke, or are in an accident so that you no longer have the ability to make decisions, then an agent you have appointed in that instrument can make those health care decisions for you. You designate who is in charge and what order in which they serve. This is designed to make sure that crucial healthcare decisions are made in a timely manager in case some form of tragedy befalls you.
