Summer is upon us here in the Miami Valley, and for many of us that comes hand-in-hand with the sounds of a sizzling grill, kids playing in the sprinklers, and birds chirping in the trees. In Dayton, though, there are even more sounds of summer to enjoy: the Downtown Summer Music Series, which is coordinated by the Department of Recreation and Youth Services, will be bringing free music to downtown Dayton.
The Downtown Summer Music Series this year features four different concerts—one each in the months of June, July, August, and September. Food and merchandise vendors will set up at Dave Hall Plaza Park, making each festival a great day-long event for both families and individuals to enjoy.
If you’re planning to attend one of the music festivals, it’s a good idea to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating, sunscreen, and sunglasses or a hat. You also don’t want to forget to bring money, because you won’t want to miss out on the food and merchandise you can purchase at these festivals! Recreation and Youth Services does ask that patrons not bring outside food, beverages, or glass containers into the park. You also shouldn’t bring a tent or your pet, since each festival is expected to draw a large crowd.

Dayton Jazz Festival
Local jazz artists will serenade the audience between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2015.
Dayton Blues Festival
The Blues Festival will fill Dave Hall Plaza Park with soul music between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015. If you’re a blues lover, you should also check out the Dayton Blues Society, which promotes blues in our city.
Dayton Rock Festival
The Dayton Rock Festival is a new addition this year to the Downtown Summer Music Series. Rock out in the park on Sunday, August 16, 2015 between 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Dayton Reggae Festival
Reggae music is true summer music. Hold onto the last days of warm weather and sunshine at the Reggae Festival on Sunday, September 6, 2015. The Reggae Festival will happen from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and you won’t want to miss the relaxed, freewheeling sounds of this last concert of the season.
