Our cold Ohio winters—while sometimes uncomfortable and dangerous to drive in—are good for at least one thing: outdoor activities and sports.
This winter, downtown Dayton will host an outdoor ice skating rink at RiverScape MetroPark (229 East Monument Ave). With just a short drive from Beavercreek, you can enjoy outdoor skating under a covered pavilion. The rink will be open daily until February 28, 2013. The rink will offer not only a place to skate, but also skating lessons, themed skating nights, and Curling classes.
If you’re in a large group and would like the rink to yourself, the rink can be rented on Sunday and Thursday nights for $300. This includes 50 skate rentals and 50 cups of hot chocolate.
Admission is free on weekdays. There is an ice skate rental fee of $5 for folks that don’t own their own skates. On the weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), admission costs $7, which includes the skate rental fee. Children under 3 are admitted free with a paying adult.
Café Vélo will be present offering hot chocolate and other cold-weather fare.
For more information about this fun, wintry event, visit the Downtown Dayton Calendar. For specific rink hours, visit the MetroParks website.
Severe weather may cause the rink to temporarily close. If the weather looks bleak and you’d like to know whether the rink will be open, call (937) 278-2607.
